Yes. Premier Locksmith can cut and program a new car key from scratch using your vehicle identification number (VIN) and proof of ownership. We carry key blanks and transponder chips for most domestic and foreign vehicles and can program push-to-start smart keys and proximity fobs on-site.

The cost varies by vehicle make, model, year, and key type. Basic cut keys start around $75–$150, while transponder keys and smart key fobs typically range $150–$400 depending on programming complexity. We always provide a price quote before starting any work.

Stay safe — move away from traffic, stay near your vehicle, and call Premier Locksmith at (956) 449-0100. Do not attempt to force entry, as this can damage your door frame, weather stripping, or window. Our technicians use professional non-destructive entry tools to open your vehicle safely.

Yes. Premier Locksmith serves motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, and fleet vehicles in addition to standard passenger cars and trucks. Call us with your year, make, and model for availability and pricing.

Key Fobs & Remotes

There are a few common reasons a key fob stops working. The most frequent is a dead or weak battery, which is usually a quick fix. But it can also be worn buttons, water damage, a fob that's lost its programming, or an issue with the vehicle's receiver or antenna. Because the symptoms often look the same from the outside, the most reliable approach is to have us take a look — we can test the fob and the vehicle and tell you exactly what's going on before you spend money replacing the wrong thing. Premier Locksmith diagnoses key fob problems across McAllen, Mission, Pharr, and Laredo.

It could be either, and that's exactly why it's worth having it checked. A dying battery is the single most common cause, so it's the first thing to rule out. If a fresh battery doesn't bring it back, the issue may be inside the fob, the programming, or the car itself. Rather than guess, we test it properly so you know whether it's a simple battery swap or something that needs reprogramming or replacement.

Common signs of a weak fob battery are needing to stand closer to the car for it to respond, having to press a button several times, slower or inconsistent locking and unlocking, or a 'key battery low' warning on your dash. These are good clues, but they don't always mean the battery is the only problem — sometimes a fob acts the same way for other reasons. If a new battery doesn't fully fix it, give us a call and we'll diagnose it.

In most cases, yes. Depending on what we find when we test it, we may replace the battery, repair or replace the fob housing, reprogram the fob to your vehicle, or supply and program a new fob if the original can't be saved. We work on most makes and models across the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo, and we'll explain the cause and your options before doing any work.

Not necessarily. Some fobs survive a brief splash, especially if they're dried out quickly, while others develop corrosion or intermittent faults that show up days later. The safest move is to let it dry and then have it tested — we can check whether it's still reliable or whether moisture has damaged the board, and program a replacement if needed.

Most modern key fobs do. A fob has to be paired to your specific vehicle to operate the locks and, on push-to-start vehicles, to start the engine. A fresh fob out of the package usually won't work until it's programmed. Some basic remotes can be self-programmed, but many vehicles require professional diagnostic tools — we handle that on-site for most makes and models.

Yes. If your fob is lost rather than just not working, we can supply a new one and program it to your vehicle. If it was your only fob, the process may take a little longer because the vehicle needs to be set up to recognize a new key from scratch, but it's a routine job for us. Bring your proof of ownership and ID.

Residential Locksmith

Rekeying a lock means changing the internal pin configuration so that old keys no longer work. The lock hardware stays the same, but a new key is cut. Rekeying is faster and cheaper than full lock replacement and is ideal when you move into a new home, lose a key, or end a tenant relationship.

We always recommend rekeying at minimum when moving into a new home. You have no way to know how many keys the previous owners distributed. Rekeying is cost-effective. If the existing hardware is worn, outdated, or low-quality, we recommend upgrading to a new deadbolt or high-security lock during the same visit.

ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts — such as those made by Schlage, Medeco, and Mul-T-Lock — offer the highest residential security rating. We recommend a Grade 1 single-cylinder deadbolt reinforced with a security strike plate and 3-inch screws. Our technicians can assess your door frame and recommend the best solution for your home.

Most standard doors with a single-cylinder deadbolt cutout are compatible with smart lock retrofits. Popular brands like Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo, and August Smart Lock can replace or augment your existing lock. We supply, install, and configure smart locks for homes throughout the RGV and Laredo.

Call Premier Locksmith at (956) 449-0100. Do not break a window — this creates a security risk and can be costly to repair. Our residential locksmiths can pick or bypass most standard residential locks without damage in most cases. If you have a high-security lock, we have specialized tools for those as well.

Yes. Interior privacy locks are typically simple pin-tumbler or push-button mechanisms and can be opened quickly with minimal tools. This is commonly needed when children are locked inside a room or a lock malfunctions.

Commercial Locksmith

A master key system allows one key (the master) to open multiple locks, while each individual lock also has its own unique key. This is ideal for property managers, office buildings, schools, and retail chains where different people need different levels of access. Premier Locksmith designs and installs master key systems of any complexity.

Access control replaces traditional keys with electronic credentials — keycards, key fobs, PIN codes, or biometrics (fingerprints). The system logs every entry and exit, allows remote locking/unlocking, and lets you revoke access instantly without changing hardware. We install and service commercial access control systems across the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo.

Panic bars (also called push bars or crash bars) are exit devices required by the International Fire Code on certain commercial doors, particularly emergency exits. They allow fast egress under pressure without a key. Premier Locksmith installs, repairs, and replaces Von Duprin, Falcon, and similar commercial panic hardware.

Yes. Emergency commercial lockout and break-in response is one of our most urgent services. We can re-secure a damaged door frame, replace a broken lock or deadbolt, board up if needed, and upgrade to high-security hardware to prevent repeat incidents. Call us at (956) 449-0100 for commercial emergency response.

We recommend a combination of rekeyed or re-pinned locks for individual units, a grand master key for property management, keyless entry on common area doors, and security-rated padlocks or hasps for storage areas. Our commercial team designs cost-effective security plans for apartment complexes throughout the RGV.

Safe Services

Yes. Our safe technicians are trained in non-destructive entry methods including manipulation (listening for the combination mechanically) and scoping for most residential and commercial safes. If non-destructive methods are not possible, we perform controlled drilling that minimizes damage and allows the safe to be repaired and re-locked afterward.

We service residential fire safes, gun safes, floor safes, wall safes, cash drawer safes, commercial floor-mounted safes, and deposit drop safes. Brands include SentrySafe, Liberty, American Security (AMSEC), Gardall, Stack-On, and many others. We also perform combination changes, electronic lock upgrades, and hinge repairs.

First try replacing the batteries — most electronic safe locks show symptoms of battery failure before fully dying. If fresh batteries don't resolve it, the keypad or lock mechanism may be faulty. Call Premier Locksmith; we can diagnose and replace electronic lock modules on most safe brands.
